Prastara is a Chennai based charitable trust created with an initiative to identify, document, preserve and share the sources of cultural information with special regard to the History and Heritage.
What we do
We at Prastara have been documenting the intangible and tangible cultural heritage of India. A dedicated team has been documenting heritage structures and the different communities & traditions connected to them. Some of our notable projects include Nagaswaram and Tavil Traditions of South India, Kumbakonam Revisited, Cave Temples of South India, etc.
The outreach programmes at Prastara primarily focus on educating people on the history and heritage of India. We have been regularly conducting lectures, workshops, field trips, clean-up drives of rivers, lakes & heritage monuments, etc., for school and college students; and heritage walks for the general public from different varied backgrounds.

Support for Temple Musicians
Nadaswaram, Thavil artistes, and Odhuvars who are associated with various temples in South India are facing huge difficulties to make their ends meet. We seek support from art connoisseurs, art patrons, and the public to help these artistes tide through these difficult times. Click to contribute.
